HOME
Conceived by choreographer and visual artist Molly Scott with composer Jarrad Powell, Home is an evening-length work that premiered at the Erickson Theater, Seattle, on May 20-23, 2010
"What does last over the course of an hour is the piece's shapeshifting sense of momentum, enhanced by Jarrad Powell's marvelous electronics-and-percussion score. Choreographer Molly Scott and Powell seem to read each other's minds with a lithe, mercurial accuracy. The costumes and set design, by Scott and Michael Rioux, also feel like two aspects of the same thing: different notes of the same musical chord. Dave Proscia's lighting completes the magic.
The dancing is so uniformly fine throughout that it feels unfair to single anyone out, but Jim Kent has a particularly light yet forceful precision in the way he follows the flow of Scott's moves.
There isn't much you can pin down here, as far as literal meaning goes. But "Home" is as striking as it is elusive, as seductive as it is ephemeral." Michael Upchurch, The Seattle Times (May 22, 2010)
