THE SOLO(S) PROJECT

The SOLO(s) Project premiered November 3-6, 2016 at Velocity Dance Center, Seattle. Soloists included Corrie Befort, Jade Solomon Curtis, Alicē Gosti, Mark Haim, Jim Kent, Linsyanne Owen, Sean O'Brian and guest performer Allison Burke. The work was commissioned through Velocity’s Made-in-Seattle program. Development of SOLO(s) was supported in part through grants from 4Culture and the Mayor’s Office of Arts & Culture, and through rehearsal residencies at Cornish College of the Arts and Velocity Dance Center. Costume and set design by Corrie Befort; lighting design by Lynne Ellis.

With help from seven of Seattle’s finest dancers, Scott creates chapters of urgency, sequences of calm and moments of inquiry. No overt story is spelled out. But each dancer is so distinctive and the contrasts between them are so nicely sequenced and deployed that you feel as if you’re watching some numinous drama unfolding – one that could never be precipitated into words. ....Scott takes her time with every dancer, pulling you deep into his or her essence, in a work that’s beautifully orchestrated and dazzlingly performed.
— Michael Upchurch (Seattle Times)
